Artwalk is back! Two years after Covid forced the suspension of this very popular event the work of many excellent artists will be on display. I’m sure the arts community is thrilled to again be able to show off its work. I know I am!
Last year a modified version of Artwalk emerged as an ‘on location’ display of art at various venues throughout the community. This year’s event has returned as it was prior to Covid. It will take place in the George Elliot Secondary School and in the new HS Grenda Middle School in Lake Country. My booth will be located in George Elliott’s small gym.
I’m very proud of the thirteen pieces I will display at Artwalk 2022. They represent a cross section of the subject matter I like to photograph. Two images are included below. Their stories are important to the presentation of the finished work. The image of the old barn was made in Flat Rock, Michigan, the community where our son Gord and his family reside. Flat Rock is a semi rural area about half an hour south of Detroit. I’ve driven past this old barn many times. In its surroundings of subdivision homes it is unremarkable. Had I decided to venture onto the property I might have found an ‘angle’ to make an interesting image. I didn’t, so it remained on my ‘hope to photograph’ list.
While visiting there several years ago in the late fall, I woke to a very foggy morning. This was the opportunity I was hoping for. By the time I arrived at the barn the fog was starting to lift. There was frost on the roof of the barn and the sun was poking through. I had time for just a few shots before the background started to show through the fog.

The story behind the fishing boats is similar. Fisherman’s Wharf in Victoria, B.C. is one of my favourite places to photograph. It too is very busy. Its colour and the constant action have made for some very interesting images but isolating subject matter from a crowded background is difficult. Here again, on a foggy morning I headed to the wharf with the aim of isolating some of the commercial boats in the shots I would take.

I’ll include the remainder of my Artwalk 2022 images in my next blog post. In the meantime, mark your calendars for September 10th and 11th. Come out and enjoy some wonderful Okanagan art.
