In the Show: The Jury Speaks

In the Show: The Jury Speaks

Captured Images, the Peachland Community Art Gallery’s annual photography exhibition, is underway and will continue until April 5th. This juried exhibition invites photographic artists to submit digital versions of their images for examination. A panel of experts in the field evaluates these submissions and selects the images that meet the exhibition’s criteria. This year, two of my submitted images were accepted by the jury.

The 55 selected images represent the work of 29 photographers. It marks the 12th such exhibit and the fifth time my work has been accepted for display at Captured Images.

In mid-February, I received an invitation to participate in Lake Country’s ArtWalk, an annual event held on the second weekend of September. Open to artists from the Okanagan Valley area, ArtWalk showcases a diverse range of artistic genres. Having been involved in ArtWalk 12 times, I eagerly anticipate the possibility of having my work accepted again this year.

ArtWalk takes place in Lake Country, B.C., a short distance north of Kelowna. It attracts a large crowd, with up to 7000 visitors during the weekend’s exhibition.

Unlike Captured Images, ArtWalk is a juried art show with a unique twist. Instead of evaluating individual pieces, the artist’s body of work is judged. In practical terms, this means I have until May 1st to submit a selection of my work for the jury committee to assess its suitability for exhibition.

Recently, another exciting opportunity to showcase my photography has emerged. I belong to a group called the Thursday Morning Shooters, a group of six ‘long in the tooth’ photographers who share a passion for photography. We have been invited to exhibit our work at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna, B.C. Two years ago, we accepted a similar invitation from the RCA. A decision is pending regarding our acceptance, and I am optimistic about the outcome.

Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of exhibiting my work in various locations. The process of creating a photograph, followed by processing, printing, and hanging it, is incredibly rewarding. It brings me immense joy to see my work displayed and appreciated by others.

All the images below are or were in the past part of the Peachland Art Gallery’s Captured Images photography exhibition.
